Birmingham City have agreed a fee with Groningen for midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld.

The English Championship side have triggered the 25-year-old’s release clause, and Kieftenbeld will now travel to Birmingham to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms.
Kieftenbeld spent time in the FC Twente youth academy before joining Go Ahead Eagles in 2007. In Deventer the defensive midfielder made 63 league appearances for Go Ahead before moving to Groningen in 2010 for around €300,000.
He is now set to leave the Euroborg after 147 Eredivisie appearances for Groningen, in which he has scored two goals. The highlight of his spell with Groningen came last season when he lifted the KNVB Cup, after victory over PEC Zwolle.
