Daley Blind has admitted he did not see Ajax’s Champions League run coming but is proud to be part of this team.

After falling out of favour with Manchester United, Blind decided to rejoin Ajax in the summer.

He has since only missed one match for the Amsterdammers, making it 54 appearances this season compared to 19 last year for Manchester United.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference before Ajax’s clash with Tottenham on Wednesday, Blind said on his move from Manchester United back to Amsterdam, “I never saw my transfer as a step back. I just wanted to play a lot. Yet at the start of the season it was mainly a matter of first getting to the Champions League. Nobody expected that it turned out like this. ”

Asked to describe Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals, Blind said, “Fantastic. Because we have shown what we are capable of. Right from the start. At Bayern we put that high level on the mat for the first time and the rest speaks for itself. It is fantastic to experience the club where you grew up. “

In conclusion, Blind said, “I am very proud to be part of this team, this Ajax and this special period.”
