Daley Blind has had some difficult weeks with Ajax but he is fully focused on the World Cup with the Netherlands.

Ajax’s form in recent weeks has been poor and Daley Blind has found himself benched by Alfred Schreuder after his performances were criticised.

Reflecting on Ajax, Blind told Algemeen Dagblad, “Enough has been said and written about Ajax and me lately, that is not always easy. I know, and at Ajax, we all know, that things have to be better. I love the club, always give everything, I am an Ajax player, so it hurts me. I find it very annoying and I am disappointed with the situation we are in.”

Blind now wants to put that behind him and focus on Oranje, “Now I want to give it a place and let it rest and focus fully on the Dutch national team. I’m going to play my second World Cup. I’m really looking forward to that.”

The left-back is expecting big things in Qatar, “We have proven since last summer in the World Cup qualification and then in the Nations League that we are a difficult team to beat. In fact, we have not lost a game. Everything under Van Gaal is so clear, and so focused on the team and the team spirit. This coach knows very well what he expects from his team. And every individual player knows it too.”
