AZ Alkmaar are out of the Champions League after a 2-0 loss in Ukraine against Dynamo Kiev.

Arne Slot decided to leave Oussama Idrissi on the bench for the clash in Ukraine with Albert Gudmundsson starting.

AZ were the better side in the first half but they struggled to create clear cut chances. Myron Boadu went closest but he scuffed at an opportunity, while the striker had a goal disallowed for the ball going out of play in the build-up.

Dynamo Kiev barely threatened but early in the second half, an error from Fredrik Midtso led to Gerson Fernandes firing the hosts ahead.

Slot threw on Ferdy Druijf and Idrissi as he tried to change the game, but it didn’t work as AZ failed to create anything. At the other end, Marco Bizot had to deny Vladyslav Supryaga.

With a few minutes left, Dynamo Kiev killed the game with Bizot only tipping a cross onto the head of Mykola Shaparenko, who nodded into an empty net.

AZ almost pulled one back straight away but both Dani de Wit and Boadu hit the crossbar from close range.

AZ now drops into the Europa League group stages while Dynamo Kiev progress to the playoff round.
