Swiss champions FC Basel have confirmed the signing of Feyenoord winger Jean-Paul Boetius on a four-year-deal.

boetius jhdjbOn Sunday it was reported that Feyenoord had agreed a fee of around €2.5 million for the winger, and after undergoing a medical, Boetius has put pen to paper on a four-year deal in Switzerland.  He will play in the 77 shirt.

Boetius was coming into the final year of his Feyenoord contract and decided it was time to leave after believing he would not be first choice under new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The one-time Netherlands international came under interest from Newcastle United and Fiorentina, but has decided Basel will be the best place for his development.

In 96 official appearances for Feyenoord, Boetius scored 20 times and added 17 assists. On the official Feyenoord website he said his goodbye, “Feyenoord is my club. I want to thank everyone for the great memories, “
