Two days after his 18th birthday, Bogarde was handed his debut by Hoffenheim coach Alfred Schreuder on Saturday. Jean-Paul Boetius and Jeffrey Bruma also started for Mainz.
Bogarde played the first 45 minutes at right-back and was substituted on a yellow card. At that point Hoffenheim were 1-0 up through Ihlas Bedou.
That proved to be the only goal with Hoffeheim taking the three points that lifts them up to 7th. Boetius was also substituted by Mainz at half-time, while Bruma played the full ninety minutes. Mainz are 15th.
