Arjen Robben could make a comeback in Brazil. The vice-chairman of Botafogo, Ricardo Rotenberg, has confirmed contact with the retired winger.

The 36-year-old retired at the end of last season when his contract with Bayern Munich expired, but he recently stated that he has thought about a comeback.

Speaking to Canal do TF, Rotenberg said he was a big fan of the former Netherlands international and that an offer has been made via the agent, Marcos Leite.

He said, “For me, he was the best player at the 2014 World Cup.

“Messi was voted best player because he is Messi. But Robben is my idol, a great player. There is always a risk if you haven’t played football for too long. But I tried and he answered. He’s happy that Botafogo approached him.

“I asked Marcos Leite to contact Robben. He did and spoke to Robben’s agent. It’s very difficult because he hasn’t played for a long time and if you want you can earn four times more elsewhere. But he knows Botafogo. “
