Brian Brobbey has revealed that he wanted to sign a new deal with Ajax after scoring in the win over Lille in February.

In January, Ajax announced that Brobbey would leave the club after failing to sign a new deal, and the striker has now agreed to join German side RB Leipzig.

However, the situation could have been different with Brobbey admitting to Veronica Inside that he wanted to sign a new deal in Amsterdam after scoring in the Europa League clash with Lille.

He said, “After that match, director of football affairs Marc Overmars came to me one more time and we sat around the table again. Then I said yes, I’ll stay, I’ll sign.”

Brobbey hinted that the problems then arose, “But after that, I think something didn’t go well in the negotiations.”

Brobbey has signed a four-year deal with RB Leipzig.
