Rob Maas has started his reign as Vitesse boss with a victory as his side deservedly saw off Cambuur 2-0 in snowy conditions.

vit cam 2Maas, who was appointed Vitesse boss until the end of the season after Peter Bosz left, saw his side start the game on top but both Izzy Brown and Valeri Qazaishvili missed golden chances to break the deadlock.

The dominant away side had to wait until the 48th minute to take the lead when Milot Rashica followed up on the rebound after Qazaishvili had seen his shot saved by Leonard Nienhuis.

Referee Eric Braamhaar then failed to award Cambuur a penalty for what looked like handball in the box by Arnold Kruiswijk, while Eloy Room was called into action to prevent the home side equalising soon after.

Eventually Vitesse sealed the victory in injury time through Qazaishvili, which sees the Arnhem side leapfrog Heracles into fourth. Cambuur remain 17th.
