Last weekend Cambuur earned their first win of the season, and it clearly gave Henk de Jong’s side confidence in Rotterdam. After half an hour the Leeuwarden side deservedly lead through Bartholomew Ogbeche, who found the bottom corner with a strike from distance.
The home side nearly equalised early in the second half but the crossbar prevented Tom van Weert before Sander Fischer sent a header just over the bar.
On 71 minutes Ogbeche punished Excelsior for their misses as he took advantage of a terrible back-pass by Fischer before sliding the ball past Tom Muyters. Jack Byrne and Jamiro Monteiro then added Cambuur’s third and fourth late on, before Kevin Vermeulen pulled back a consolation.
Cambuur now climb above Twente into 16th while Excelsior are 13th.
