Excelsior, Willem II and De Graafschap all lost their matches this weekend, which presented bottom side Cambuur with an opportunity to move closer to safety with a win over Roda JC.
The first half saw neither side create any real chances, with Benjamin van Leer only having to deal with a long range effort from Jack Byrne.
Minutes into the second half Roda JC grabbed the lead as Georgiy Zhukov’s excellent cross was tapped in by Tom van Hyfte. Mike van Duinen then went close to doubling the away sides lead, but the striker’s shot came back off the woodwork.
Cambuur launched a late assault on the Roda JC goal but van Leer denied Kevin van Veen as the visitors held on.
Cambuur remain nine points from safety, while Roda JC remain 14th.
