Cambuur lost Henk de Jong earlier this week after the coach no longer felt he could make a difference at the club, and interim bossĀ Sipke Hulshoff took charge against Utrecht on Friday.
The home side were understandably nervous during the first half, but they created the best chance with Kevin van Veen curling a free kick towards the top corner, but Robbin Ruiter pushed the ball away.
With the last three Eredivisie matches ending 0-0 it seemed we were on course for another stalemate in the second half, but Utrecht’s Mark van der Maarel broke the curse on 79 minutes. The defender headed in from close range.
Sebastien Haller then sealed victory for Utrecht in the last few minutes by heading in a corner.
Utrecht rise to fifth with victory, while Cambuur remain 17th, but they could be bottom by the end of the weekend should De Graafschap beat Willem II.
