The defender, who moved to Glasgow from Groningen in the summer, and has impressed many throughout the season, with some dominant performances for the SPL champions.

From the start of the game against Ajax, Van Dijk was excellent, as he controlled his back four brilliantly, and limited the dominant away side to a few chances.

With his side winning 2-0, Van Dijk put in an excellent challenge to stop a rampant Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, who looked set to go through on goal.

Van Dik’s performance will no doubt have impressed Van Gaal, and the defender should come under consideration for a call up in Netherlands next set of friendlies.

With a number of chances to impress before the end of the season, Van Dijk could even win himself a ticket on the plane to next summer’s World Cup. If he continues with these performances it will be well deserved.
