Groningen have confirmed that defender Jeffrey Chabot has left the club to sign for Serie A side Sampdoria.

The German centre-back joined Groningen a year-ago from Sparta Rotterdam and signed a four-year deal. However, Chabot has now departed for Serie A, signing for Sampdoria, who currently sit ninth in the table.
Groningen technical manager Mark-Jan Fledderus told the club’s official website, “After moving from Sparta to Groningen, Jeffrey has developed strongly in a year. So good that a renowned Italian club is on his doorstep. No transfer fee has been revealed yet but reports in Italy claim that Groningen will receive around €3 million.
