Feyenoord hosts Lazio on Wednesday as they look to take a step towards the Champions League knockout rounds.

Feyenoord began their campaign with a convincing win over Celtic before they fell to a narrow 3-2 loss in Spain against Atletico Madrid.

Arne Slot’s side are currently third in the group and a point behind Wednesday’s opponents Lazio, who drew with Atletico before beating Celtic.

Feyenoord have been playing some excellent football this season and at the weekend, they defeated Vitesse Arnhem 4-0. That win kept them in third position in the table behind AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven.

Lazio had a poor start to the campaign but they are currently on a three-game winning streak and their 2-0 victory against Sassuolo put them ninth in the table.

Feyenoord are without the injured Yankuba Minteh and Gernot Trauner, while Luka Ivanusec is back training but not fit enough to start the game.

Good news for Feyenoord is that Santiago Gimenez is available after a knock at the weekend.

Christiano Lombardi is the only injury concern for Lazio, who have Ciro Immobile available again. Maurizio Sarri will need to decide whether the striker comes straight back into his eleven.

Home form important for Feyenoord

If they are to progress from the group, then Feyenoord will need to make sure their home form is strong.

Lazio have been good so far in the competition but Feyenoord should not be intimidated by the Italians, who have been shaky in Serie A.

The home crowd will make it a wonderful atmosphere and Feyenoord will go on the attack from the start. Gimenez is in outstanding form up front and he could be the man to fire the Rotterdammers to victory.
