PSV Eindhoven came away from Monaco with a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier.

PSV got the first big chance of the game when the ball was laid back to Joey Veerman in the box but he placed his shot just wide.

AS Monaco thought they should have had a penalty when the ball hit Jordan Teze on the hand but the appeals were waved away. Five minutes later, PSV did have the lead when a nice move ended with Luuk de Jong setting up Veerman to hammer the Dutch side in front.

Takumi Minamino should have equalised for Monaco early in the second half but he missed the target. At the other end, Guus Til missed a good chance to double PSV’s lead.

The game became open as Monaco went in search of an equaliser but Minamino passed up another big chance after a mistake by Armando Obispo. PSV also got another chance but De Jong’s shot was saved before Ismael Saibari fired wide.

As the half wore on, Monaco pushed PSV back and eventually, the hosts equalised as Axel Disasi fired past Walter Benitez. PSV looked knackered and they were lucky to escape with a draw as Youssouf Fofana hit the post from close range.

PSV take a decent result back to Eindhoven next week.
