The former Feyenoord midfielder has found himself in and out of the Southampton side this season, but he was handed a start in Wednesday’s quarter-final against Arsenal.
Clasie repaid his manager’s faith by blasting his side ahead with his first goal for the club in the 13th minute, before putting in a commanding midfield performance to ensure his sides victory. He not only made two tackles, two interceptions and a clearance, Clasie also ended the game with a 91.2% passing accuracy. Virgil van Dijk was also in form again for the Saints, keeping a clean sheet with seven clearances throughout the game.
In the other quarter-final on Wednesday night, Manchester United beat West Ham 4-1 with Daley Blind appearing from the bench in the second half. However, there was once again no place in the squad for either Timothy Fosu-Mensah or Memphis Depay.
