The 45-year-old’s contract was set to expire in 18-months-time but the club announced on Monday that Cocu had extended that deal and will now stay at the Philips Stadion until 2019.
Cocu told the official PSV website, “We’ve embarked on a new route – one with a beautiful view. But there’s still more to come from the club, as there is from me. That’s why I want to continue here.
“We’re going to focus on our own youth but, at the same time, we want to continue to supplement the team with more experienced players. We’ll continue to do so wherever possible.”
Cocu took charge of the first team in 2013 and guided the club to the league title last season, and the last 16 of the Champions League in this campaign. PSV currently sit just two points off the top in the Eredivisie as they seek their second title in a row.
The news will delight the club’s fans, who feared Cocu could exit, especially with interest from England reportedly growing. His name was linked with Swansea City recently.
