The 45-year-old has been in charge of Ajax for six years, but this week indicated to the club that he wanted to leave this summer, despite their still being one year left on his contract.
After talks with Ajax’s directors it has been agreed to dissolve the coaches contract with immediate effect and De Boer is now a free agent.
De Boer said in a statement, “After winning four league titles in succession was the 2014/15 season a disappointment. That we wanted to rectify last season, we have done everything. But it is not become what we all hoped and expected. ”
“I started getting more to realize that it was time for something else.
“It’s better for me and I think also for Ajax. What I will do, I do not know yet. A year without a club is also an option, I’ll see what comes my way. ”
In his six years with Ajax, De Boer won four league titles but the last two years have been barren for the club with PSV Eindhoven beating them to the Eredivisie trophy twice. The fans have become restless with De Boer’s management, and the former defenders exit may have come at the right time.
Maccabi Tel Aviv boss Peter Bosz is the current favourite to replace De Boer in Amsterdam.
He’s a great coach. I think it’s very tough to coach at the top level in Holland at a top club. Every year you may lose key players and its a constant rebuild. Frank is a great tactician and give him a good squad to work with for a couple of years and good results will be achieved. He is smart and I think he is the best Dutch coach in football. He hates to lose and to me he has to go to at least a top 10 EPL team or better. He is better than Koeman and miles ahead of LVG. Leaving Ajax is a good thing for his career. The KNVB has no pull on the Eredivisie and its become unfortunately a feeder league which is the biggest disgrace to the football world. Good job Frank and good luck.
