The small island is currently competing in the Gold Cup and has several players with Eredivisie experience including Charlison Benschop and Eloy Room.
Speaking to De Gelderlander, Curacao boss Remko Bicentini has revealed that he is hoping to convince Riechedly Bazoer, Jurgen Locadia and Patrick van Aanholt to also represent the nation instead of Netherlands.
He said, “Riechedly Bazoer was rented out by VfL Wolfsburg to FC Utrecht this season. He played two exhibition games under Danny Blind. I approached him.
“I am talking to Jürgen Locadia, a former PSV player who now plays at Brighton. Patrick van Aanholt is also in my plans. He has been standing in the Premier League for six years. Choose Curaçao. If you do that, you will find that you are coming in with family. That you are one of us. “
Bazoer has two Netherlands caps but only in friendlies. Locadia has featured in Oranje squads but is yet to make his debut while Van Aanholt has nine international caps, all in friendlies.
Despite his young age, Bazoer seems very unlikely to get a look in with the Oranje, not with the current players they have in midfield. So he may as well go.
Personally i’d like to see Van Aanholt stick with the Dutch. Probably not higher than 3rd choice LB atm, but he’s versatile and capable of providing a dangerous attacking threat. Can easily be used as a LM/LW.
Interesting that could build a good squad of player who don’t quote make it for Oranje. I love PVA huge talent & Bazoer too who Wolfsburg want to sell.
I always wanted to go to Curacao supposed to be a very relaxed Island & it is sovereign nation of the Dutch. Dutch & English main languages small population but very interstsd Island. They could do well agasint the other small islands if they did this.
And if Koeman doesn’t call up Wout Weghoust…. Hopefully he does ta great with feet love to see him lead the line for next call ups
Curacao is currently no. 76 on the fifa ranking list and is competing in the concacaf nation league in group A. They have recently reach the quater finals of the Gold Cup and lost 1-0 against USA while dominating the game. The island has a good chance to qualify for the world championship. Therefore the aquisition of Bazoer, PVA and Locadia will strenghten the team more. Curacao has right now a competitive team with Eloy Room, Leandro and Juninho Bacuna, Elson Hooi, Brandley Kuwas and Jurien Gaari.
