Memphis Depay has received the backing of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney after the latest series of blame directed at the young Dutchman following an error against Chelsea on Sunday

The 21-year-old was castigated for not running the ball into a Stamford Bridge corner when the visitors led in stoppage time on Sunday. Instead Depay – an 87th-minute substitute – gave possession away, with Guus Hiddink’s Chelsea then notching a late equaliser via Diego Costa.
Rooney says the blame should be directed to the entire team and not a particular player. The three lion skipper Rooney believes criticism of his miscalculation is unfair.
‘A lot of things happened from when we gave the ball away to when they scored the goal so I don’t think we can stand here and blame Memphis,’ Rooney said.
‘We all give bad passes away. It was a disappointing result because I thought we played some nice stuff but, at this stage of the season, it’s results that matter and we dropped two points.’
Depay was given a given a run out for Warren Joyce’s Under 21s in the seven-goal drubbing of Norwich on Monday night, assisting three as Will Keane scored five at Old Trafford.
