Blind, whose son Daley plays for Manchester United, has known van Gaal for years having played under him for Ajax in the 90’s before becoming his assistant for the Dutch national team during the World Cup in 2014.
Speaking to the media at Netherlands training camp in Portugal, Blind has admitted his shock at the way van Gaal has been treated by Manchester United.
He said, “I’m closer to the situation than many other people and I can tell you that his departure came as a surprise. I feel for him. He doesn’t deserve this.
“I’ve worked with him for so many years. I played under him for years at Ajax, I was his captain, I was his assistant at the last World Cup. He’s a great coach.
“We all know that, as a manager, you will face the sack at some stage in your career. It happens to every manager.
“In this case I find it very disappointing. I know in which way this sacking was done and it’s not the way it should go.”
Van Gaal was sacked by Manchester United on Monday with a year still left on his contract. Jose Mourinho is expected to take over the Premier League giants.
we careless. we own our club not you. if you don’t get the sack for failing to qualify for the euros then you should be thanking your God. we are man utd not a mid table dutch team.
Danny should be minding his own business as Dutch national coach rather than the happenings at Old Trafford. He himself faces the sack when targets are not met.
If Holland start playing the mediocre and uninspiring style that LVG Instilled in this Man United team, then you Danny Blind will suffer the same fate.
