Newcastle United have completed the signing of Netherlands international Daryl Janmaat, the club have confirmed.

janmaat cdfThe Dutch right back joins the Magpies from Feyenoord, for a reportedly £6 million fee, and has penned a 6 year contract.

Janmaat has spent two years at Feyenoord having joined the club on a free transfer from Heerenveen in 2012. In two years the right back made 63 league appearances, scoring five times. The defender impressed potential suitors, including Newcastle, during the World Cup as he started each of the Oranje’s group stage matches.

For Newcastle, Janmaat comes in as a ready made replacement for the Arsenal bound Mathieu Debuchy. In Janmaat, 24, Newcastle get a defender who’s just entered the best years of his career. The right back has reputation of being a solid, reliable fullback and a great leader.

An announcement which confirms Mathieu Debuchy’s move to Arsenal is expected in the coming hours. Janmaat is the 5th player to arrive at St. James’ Park this summer after the signings of Siem De Jong, Ayoze Perez, Remy Cabella and Jack Colback.
