The Europa League represents the only chance for Ajax to add a trophy to their season and boss Frank de Boer has urged his side to go as far as they can in the competition or be labeled failures.

De Boer told a press conference, “For us, the Europa League is very important. We really want to proceed to the next round, but it’s not easy.

“But it could be our last chance to win a trophy. If we don’t win a trophy this season, then we can speak of a failed year.

“So, we want to get as far as possible.”

Ajax have failed to get past the first knockout round of the Europa League in each of the last three seasons.
