The former Ajax boss criticised Mourinho at the weekend for his coaching of Marcus Rashford, which led to a scathing attack from the Manchester United coach who called De Boer, “The worst coach in Premier League history.”

Speaking to AD, De Boer was mature with his response, “I have a lot of respect for Mourinho as a coach.

“He has already won many trophies, is tactically very strong and knows how to disrupt the game of every opponent. Well, I can learn a lot from that.

“I meant nothing personal about it, when I spoke about how Mourinho manages and the role that Marcus Rashford has under him at United.

“That method of management, that is a different view than we are used to in the Netherlands.

“But in the philosophy of Mourinho and Manchester United that is different. And that is also their right.”
