Jurgen Streppel is on his way out of the Frisian club at the end of the season with VVV Venlo coach Maurice Steijn one of the names already linked with replacing him.

However, presenter Arjen de Boer revealed to Omrop Fryslan, “Heerenveen wants a big name and a name you hear in the corridors is that of Frank de Boer.

“We did not get it confirmed through the official channels, they keep their lips tight.”

De Boer has been out of work since being sacked by Crystal Palace last September after a horrible start to the Premier League season, which saw the club lose their opening four games without scoring a goal. He previously had success with Ajax during a five-year-spell in charge but also struggled with Inter Milan in a short reign in Italy.

A return to the Eredivisie may appeal to De Boer as he looks to get his career back on track.
