Netherlands boss Frank de Boer will not select Virgil van Dijk for the European Championships if he has not returned for Liverpool by next summer.

The Netherlands captain is out for months after suffering a serious knee injury playing for Liverpool against Everton back in October.
Speaking to Voetbal international, de Boer said on his possible selection for the Euros, “It will be a race against time
“I hope so, but it must be responsible. He will have to play before then, otherwise I can’t imagine Liverpool giving him up. “
The 29-year-old Oranje captain has never played at a major tournament.
