Ex-Celtic boss Strachan stated earlier in the week that Celtic should be confident of winning against the youthful Ajax side, who in his words “Haven’t had a shave yet.”
Now Frank de Boer has hit back, stating although his team is young, they will need no motivation to overcome Celtic in the crucial Champions League tie in the Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday.
De Boer told the Daily Record, “I’m glad Gordon said it because we will win this game. After the match in Glasgow I promised them we would have a different result at home.
“I’m convinced of that. I know it. And we’ll win it by playing the same way we did in Glasgow. I think Gordon was speaking about us in a different context when he said that. He just said we are such a young team but he was maybe joking slightly. Suddenly, everyone takes it seriously.
“I won’t use Gordon’s comments as motivation. My players shouldn’t need to search for motivation from another direction. You have to find it within yourself. It’s weak if you have to be motivated by those kind of quotes.”
