De Graafschap’s slim chances of avoiding the relegation playoffs are still alive after they defeated Emmen 1-0.

De Graafschap went into the game six points adrift of Emmen, who sat just outside the relegation playoff places.

The home side needed a victory and they took the lead in the 12th minute. Fabian Serrarens netted after a massive blunder by soon to be Ajax goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen.

Ten minutes into the second half, Emmen got a great chance to equalise when Jafar Arias raced through on goal but his effort was weak and easily kept out by Nigel Bertrams.

Emmen pushed for an equaliser but Bertrams proved to be the hero for the hosts with saves from Glenn Bijl and Sven Braken, who also fired a late chance just wide.

The win moves De Graafschap within three points of Emmen with only two games left. It also moves them seven points ahead of bottom of the table NAC Breda meaning automatic relegation is very unlikely.
