Frenkie de Jong is happy with his position further forward in the Barcelona attack.

Frenkie de Jong started the season as Barcelona’s deepest midfielder but has been pushed forward in recent games to good effect. De Jong has scored twice in Barcelona’s last eight games and has two assists.

Speaking to the press ahead of Barcelona’s cup clash with Real Sociedad, De Jong said, “I played in a different position in the last games. I’m playing a bit more forward now. The coach asks me to play a more emphatic role in the attack and I feel much more comfortable with that.

“I feel very good at the moment and the team is improving enormously. We have won the first three games of this calendar year. Our game is also much smoother. ‘

“A lot has changed at the club last summer and that is why we had a difficult start, although the fact that we hardly had any preparation played a major role in this. The noses have always remained in the same direction, but since the turn of the year we have really started to play a lot better.”
