Newcastle United are set to complete the loan signing of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong on loan until the end of the season.

de jong lThe German club announced on their Twitter page early on Tuesday that the Dutchman had missed training in order to fly to Newcastle for his medical.

Newcastle have agreed to sign De Jong on an initial loan deal until the end of the season, with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.

De Jong could have moved to Newcastle in 2012, but instead chose to leave Twente for Gladbach in a €12 million deal. The move to Germany has not worked out for the striker, and so far this season De Jong is yet to net in 14 Bundesliga matches.

With Newcastle, De Jong will get the chance to get his career back on track, starting with the local derby with Sunderland on Saturday, and should the goals return a place at next summers World Cup could follow.
