de jong siem nufcThe midfielder’s time in England has been ravaged by injuries, with De Jong starting only one Premier League game since his move from Ajax in the summer of 2014.

Since his return at the start of the season, De Jong has found himself rooted to the bench and behind fellow Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum in the pecking order.

Speaking to NOS, De Jong spoke of his frustration at suffering injury at the start of his Newcastle career, which has seen him lose his place to Steve McClaren’s new signings.

He said, “This is just bad luck, it could have happened at Ajax,”

“Of course it is annoying when you come to a new club and almost immediately miss a year because of injuries.”

“The new coach decided to attract new players. And you know new players, especially in the beginning, often play. That makes it very difficult for me,”

De Jong then hinted at the possibility of a move back to the Eredivisie, but only on loan, “It is my goal to play here first, I do not want to completely leave. And the club has also indicated that I am not allowed to leave at this time. ”

“But if the coach says I’m not going to play much here, I’ll have to go play my games somewhere else. A return to Netherlands is definitely an option. I have always loved life in my own country.”
