A head injury to Matthijs de Ligt played a big role as Juventus lost 1-0 at Lyon in the Champions League.

After sitting on the bench for the last two league matches, Matthijs de Ligt was once again in the starting eleven for Juventus. Kenny Tete was on the bench for Lyon, who are still without the injured Memphis Depay.

Just before the half-hour mark, De Ligt went forward for a corner and got a boot in the face from teammate Alex Sandro. It caused a lot of blood to stream from the Dutchman’s head and he needed treatment on the sideline.

While, De Ligt was being patched up, Lyon took full advantage and Lucas Tousart fired in the opening goal.

Juventus failed to make a comeback in the second half with Paulo Dybala having a goal ruled out for offside.

The second leg takes place in Turin in two weeks time.
