The Ajax defender gave away a penalty in the first-half after a slip that allowed Marcus Rashford in on goal. However, he recovered to score the equaliser in the second half and remained strong against Harry Kane in extra-time as Netherlands sealed their place in the Nations League final.
After the game, De Ligt told NOS, “I played well until the 1-0.
“I get a ball back from De Roon. I want to pass the football to Cillessen, but I’m late. That’s very stupid, and I know that myself afterwards. I don’t have to take the ball in the direction of the goal.
“It is then a matter of growing again. I am strict with myself, but I also know that I should not get stuck in it. It is a shame that such a moment typifies my game a bit. I had to make up for something. ”
