Matthijs de Ligt has admitted he should have done better with all three goals that Juventus conceded against Napoli during his Serie A debut.

Juventus beat Napoli 4-3 at the weekend but the Italian media was full of criticism for De Ligt. Napoli scored three times in 15 minutes after the break and the Italian media blamed De Ligt for all three.

Ronald Koeman defended his centre-back on Monday, stating that in his option, De Ligt was only at fault for one of the goals, scored by Hirving Lozano.

Speaking to Voetbal International, De Ligt said on his debut, “It’s not really about what others think, or what I think. Whether it was big mistakes or small ones, I know I could have done better with all three goals. I don’t look at others and put it on myself, I will always do that.

“Of course there are things that are different from what I am used to, but I will have to get used to that. With a free kick we all walk back on the same line at the same time. I walked back later, so I’ll have to adjust things like that.

“It was a pity, but there are fifty games to come. Ultimately I deal with this as I always deal with it. I look at the points that were less and the points that could be better. I think I just played a great game for sixty minutes, then things came that I know I should have done better. So I will do that differently in the next matches.”
