The twenty-year-old captained Ajax to the Eredivisie title and Champions League semi-finals last season before joining Juventus this summer. The centre-back has also been important for the Dutch national team in their run to the Nations League final and Euro qualifying campaign.
De Ligt has been rewarded for his great year with the Kopa Trophy, which is given out by France Football to the biggest talent in football.
De Ligt was handed the trophy by last year’s winner Kylian Mbappe and told the crowd, “This is a huge honor. I would like to thank everyone at Ajax and my new club Juventus. Of course I also want to thank my family and my girlfriend. I am extremely proud that I have achieved this. I hope everyone enjoys this wonderful evening. There are so many big players here, so it’s important to enjoy.”
