Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has spoken to Mundo Deportivo about his future amid links to Barcelona and PSG.

The 19-year-old’s future has been up in the air for months with constant links to several of Europe’s top clubs.

PSG have recently become favourites to sign the defender due to the amount they are willing to pay Ajax and De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola. However, Barcelona are still in the race and they hope to convince De Ligt to follow Frenkie de Jong to the Nou Camp.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, De Ligt said on his future, “I do not yet know what my heart is telling me. I have so far fully focused on Ajax and the Dutch national team.

“Now that my vacation starts, I can think about it and decide what I want to do with my future.”

Playing time is important to De Ligt but he is not afraid of the competition he would have at Barcelona, “The most important thing is that I know I will be in a team where I can be important and play a lot of matches. It is logical and normal that there is competition at a large club like Barcelona.”

On the prospect of playing with De Jong and Lionel Messi, De Ligt said, “Of course it would be fun to play with them, but I also have to look at what is best for me.”

PSG and Manchester United are offering De Ligt more than Barcelona but money is not an issue for De Ligt, “No, money is not the problem.”

De Ligt is in no rush to make a final decision, “I don’t know when it will be known, but I’ll take the time.”
