Henk Fraser’s side got off to a lightning start with Kevin Jansen firing ADO Den Haag into the lead on nine minutes after some fine play from Edouard Duplan.
Excelsior’s evening then got worse with goalkeeper Filip Kurto stretchered off with a suspected broken leg. However, on 24 minutes the home side equalised as Adil Aussar’s fine cross found Tom van Weert in the box and the forward made no mistake with his finish.
On 69 minutes Van Weert finished off a swift move to put Excelsior in front, but the lead lasted less than ten minutes before debutante Dennis van der Heijden netted from a corner to equalise. The young striker then pounced four minutes from the end to give ADO Den Haag the lead before Mike Havenaar sealed victory in stoppage time.
The win sees ADO Den Haag sit 11th while Excelsior remain 16th.
