Earlier on Sunday, Depay made his final appearance at the Philips Stadion in a PSV shirt before his move to Manchester United is completed, with the winger netting a stunning 30-yard free-kick, before receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.
Afterwards Depay spoke to Sky Sport and admitted that he was close to signing for PSG before Manchester United called his agent, and after talks with Louis van Gaal, the winger decided on a move to the Premier League.
Depay said, “I was really close to a transfer to Paris St Germain. I knew United were always interested but nothing was concrete.
“In the last moment, United called my manager at PSV. Of course, I spoke to Louis van Gaal. It was a difficult situation.
“After I spoke with Van Gaal, I told myself ‘I want to go there’. I’m really proud and I believe I can be a big player at United.”
On the special reception he received from the PSV fans, Depay told Fox Sports, ” Its amazing how the fans have spoiled me today. A dream. From both sides it is sincere. We have won which makes it extra nice.”
What was the best today? “I think the banners and the atmosphere. That is something I will always remember. These people have worked hard on it, I really appreciate that. Anyone who knows me will know that It will stay in mind. Really fantastic. “
