Sergino Dest has stated he will not yet make his final decision between the Dutch national team or the USA.

After holding talks with the KNVB last week, Dest was left out of the US squad announced on Wednesday.
Asked about his absence by Fox Sports, the 18-year-old right-back said, “I would rather not talk about that at the moment.
“In any case, I have not yet opted for one of the two countries. I just have to think a little longer about both options and have said that I have not decided yet. That is why I cancelled both countries.”
Dest hinted at a decision in November, “It’s a decision I have to make for my entire life, so I want to handle it with care. That’s why I left it this time. Hopefully I’ll be out next month, but if I need more time I will take it too. ”
As an American by choice and a Hollander by birth I root for both Countries to do well on the international scene. If Sergino Dest is the great talent he is proclaimed to be, he can help both countries. The state of American soccer is a mess. It is my uneducated opinion that Sergino’s talents will be better served by playing for the Netherlands. He will be surrounded by much better players and therefore have less pressure to perform well.
As someone living in the States I agree with you that US soccer is a mess right now. However another consideration is national team playing time. Dest is only 18 and although right now RB is a problem area for the Dutch, they have many good players regularly coming through their academies. He may soon face very stiff competition for the starting role.
With the US, he’s much more likely to be able to gain and retain a starting position.
I’d love to see him choose the Netherlands, but I can understand how he could go either way.
