advocaat sunderAdvocaat has been out of work since leaving Sunderland earlier this season, but his addition to the Feyenoord technical team was announced on Monday.

The 68-year-old told NOS, ”I accepted the role at first because I have nothing to do at this moment in time.

”There was also talk of ADO Den Haag showing interest in me and then Feyenoord came along and in the past I came very close to joining them as manager twice and I have a good relationship with Giovanni van Bronckhorst and I know Jan Wouters well too ”.

Dick Advocaat gave his reaction to Feyenoord losing 7 consecutive league games, ”Everybody knows that such a sequence of events is unacceptable at any level of football so now the team must show at home to Roda JC this Sunday the will to win.

“It’s important that there is clarity in the team and Gio knows that too”.

Rumors persist about a return to management but Dick Advocaat remains adamant that this is just an advisory role. ”I have not come here to sit in somebody’s seat. I would like to contribute in terms of talking and thinking along with the staff and at my age of 68 such a thing can only be positive”.
