Van Persie hasn’t featured for Netherlands since the 3-2 defeat at home to Czech Republic in 2015, but he has been recalled by Advocaat for the crucial World Cup qualifiers with France and Bulgaria.

Advocaat said during his press conference, ”I still believe that Robin van Persie is one of the best attackers that we have hence why I have called him up to the international squad.

”He has struggled with his fitness in the recent past but if you use Robin van Persie in the right way you see that he has many qualities.

”I am convinced that Robin can contribute to Oranje. We have players in the squad with a lot of potential such as Donny van de Beek. I am convinced that Donny has will become a very good player who will play an important role for the national team in the future.

”We also need experienced players for the upcoming two matches that have been there before and know what it is like to experience pressure situations.”
