After an astonishing breakthrough season, the prolific striker became a man in demand, with scouts from all of Europe’s top teams following his exploits. Nevertheless, at the end of the season, Dolberg was clear that he would reject a big money move to stay with the Amsterdam side to ensure regular playing time and continue his progression.

However, since Peter Bosz’s departure – the man whom Dolberg credits greatly for his meteoric rise – the Dane’s future has become less clear, and while he ruled out a move to follow Bosz to Borussia Dortmund, Dolberg’s agent Jens Steffensen was quick to praise Roma and the Serie A, fuelling speculation about a move to the Italian capital. He even told Italian radio on Wednesday, that Dolberg, “Would find it hard to say no to Roma.”

Now Mediaset in Italy is reporting that Roma have had a €15 million bid for Dolberg rejected, with the offer five million short of Ajax’s asking price. Whether this story is to be believed will only become clear in the coming weeks, but €20 million seems low for a striker in such high demand, with a contract until 2021.

The path from the Eredivisie to Roma is one that is becoming increasingly well-travelled, with Hector Moreno and Rick Karsdorp making the switch in the past weeks.
