van de Beek said, ”It was an important goal. We played better after the equalizer. I always enjoy scoring. This goal was not only for Ajax but also for Appie and the Nouri family.

”I was emotional after scoring and I was happy to dedicate to goal to Appie and his family. We agreed as a team that we would fight for Appie tonight and we intend to show that in all our games this season.

”We felt that we needed to score and even had chances to win the game with Davidson Sanchez hitting the crossbar. 1-1 is a good result to take back to Amsterdam.

”In the first half we were too careless in ball possesion and the goal from Nice affected us. In 2nd half we started to hunt for the winning goal and we were also dangerous on the counter attack but you also need to be careful not to conceed a goal.

”This past week has been very emotional and tough but we are going to do it for Appie.”
