The Bundesliga club confirmed on Wednesday that Dost had suffered a broken foot during their training session on Tuesday morning.
The Dutch international is now expected to miss six weeks of action, which will rule him out of Wolfsburg’s Champions League first leg tie with Gent in February.
Wolfsburg Director of Sport Klaus Allofs told the club’s website, “At the moment, we expect Bas will have to undergo surgery,”
“We had some very positive talks with Bas just before the injury and the result of those discussions was an enormous drive to press on. It’s very unfortunate that his plans have now been disrupted. We wish Bas all the best for a speedy recovery,”
Dost had scored seven goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances this season.
