Denzel Dumfries netted a last-gasp equaliser as PSV Eindhoven struggled to a 1-1 draw at VVV Venlo.

PSV headed to Venlo looking to make a good start to 2020, but without a recognised centre-forward. Steven Bergwijn started through the middle and in the third minute he raced in on goal, but at a crucial moment he slipped and the chance was gone.

Bruma then missed two great chances to give the visitors the lead, the second a strike from point blank range that was saved by Thorsten Kirschbaum.

VVV, who were coached by Hans de Koning for the first time, also came close but Jerome Sinclair’s effort was cleared off the line by Timo Baumgartl. Lars Unnerstall also had to deny Nils Röseler.

In the 67th minute, VVV were awarded a penalty when Oscar Boscagli brought down Simon Janssen. Johnatan Opoku made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-0.

PSV pushed for an equaliser and 17-year-old English talent Noni Madueke was brought on for his debut. However, it seemed VVV were going to hold on until the 92nd minute when Denzel Dumfries headed in an equaliser.

PSV remains fourth with the point while VVV are 16th.
