A round up of how the Dutch stars playing around Europe’s biggest league’s fared at the weekend.

After their Champions League exit midweek, Manchester United looked to bounce back against Bournemouth on Saturday evening, however Louis van Gaal’s side slumped to a 2-1 defeat. Memphis Depay was handed a start and the winger played a part in the equaliser as his shot was spilled before being scored by Marouane Fellaini. Daley Blind also featured but had an evening to forget at the back.

There was better news for Newcastle United’s Dutch stars though as the club continued their resurgence with a 2-1 win at Tottenham. Daryl Janmaat, Georginio Wijnaldum, Vurnon Anita and Siem de Jong all featured in the surprise victory. De Jong came close to his first Premier League goal too, but his goal-bound shot was blocked by his own teammate Papiss Cisse.

Erik Pieters, Marco van Ginkel and Ibrahim Afellay all started for Stoke City in their 0-0 draw with West Ham United. The latter created several chances in the first half but failed to break the deadlock.

Southampton’s poor form continued on Saturday as Ronald Koeman’s side were defeated 1-0 at Crystal Palace. Virgil van Dijk played the full game, while Jordy Clasie was once again an unused substitute.

It was the battle of the Dutch left backs at the Stadium of Light on Saturday as Patrick van Aanholt’s Sunderland were defeated 1-0 by Nathan Ake’s Watford. Both played the full game, while Steven Berghuis and Jeremain Lens were unused substitute’s for their sides.

Aston Villa remain bottom of the Premier League after a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal. Leandro Bacuna played the whole game, but failed to make a real impact.

English Championship

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink started his reign as QPR boss on Saturday with a 0-0 draw at home to Burnley. Leroy Fer started the game and had several chances to open the scoring, but couldn’t find the net, while Tjarron Chery was left on the bench.

Rajiv van la Parra came off the bench to score for league leaders Brighton in their 2-2 draw at Derby. Elvis Manu was on the bench, while Danny Holla was not involved.

Ola John was a second half substitute in Reading’s tie at Preston, but couldn’t prevent his side from falling to a 1-0 defeat.

Glenn Loovens played the full game as his Sheffield Wednesday side earned a 2-2 draw at Cardiff City.

Maikel Kieftenbeld helped Birmingham city earn a credible 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough. The midfielder played the full ninety minutes and was impressive in front of the away side’s defence.

Dorus De Vries kept a clean sheet in goal for Nottingham Forest as they held Blackburn Rovers to a 0-0 draw.

Italian Serie A

Nigel de Jong was finally reinstated to the AC Milan starting-line-up on Sunday, but the midfielder had a game to forget as he cost his side three points. With AC Milan leading 1-0 De Jong conceded a penalty and received a red card for a trip in the box. Verona scored the penalty and held out for a 1-1 draw.

After scoring his first goal in Italy last week, Marten de Roon couldn’t help prevent Atalanta going down 1-0 at Chievo. The midfielder played the full ninety minutes.

Lazio were heading for a much needed 1-0 win over Sampdoria until a 93rd minute equaliser meant they had to settle for a point. Wesley Hoedt played the full game in the centre of the defence, and Edson Braafheid was an unused substitute, while Ricardo Kishna wasn’t involved.

German Bundesliga

Augsburg’s rise up the Bundesliga table continued on Sunday as Paul Verhaegh’s side netted late on in a 2-1 win over Schalke. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar played 70 minutes of the tie but failed to make an impact.

Bas Dost once against started on the bench for Wolfsburg at the weekend but came on at half time with the score 1-0 to Hamburg. The striker failed to find the net but his side did eventually equalise to earn a 1-1 draw.

Charlison Benschop was a late substitute for Hannover 96, but couldn’t prevent his side losing 1-0 at Hoffenheim.

Roy Beerens was an unused substitute for Hertha Berlin in their 4-0 win at Darmstadt 98.

French Ligue 1

Both Gregory van der Wiel (PSG) and Karim Rekik (Marseille)  failed to appear for their side’s this weekend.

Portuguese Premiera Liga

Bruno Martins Indi helped Porto to a 2-1 win over Nacional in a match that was abandoned after 86 minutes due to poor weather, before being completed on Monday. The centre back played the full game.

Swiss Super League

Jean Paul Boetius remained on the bench as Basel were defeated in the cup by Sion. The game finished 2-2 before Sion triumphed on penalties.

Turkish Super Lig

Robin van Persie returned for Fenerbahce on Sunday with the Dutch striker appearing from the bench after an hour of the 1-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir.

Wesley Sneijder gave Galatasaray the lead against Besiktas on Monday with a long range shot into an open goal, but Besiktas came to earn a 2-1 victory which keeps them in charge at the top.

Ryan Donk played the full game as Kasimpasa beat Konyaspor 2-1 to close in on the top four.

Diego Biseswar netted two penalties as Kayserispor beat Akhisar Belediyespor.

Spanish La Liga

Rafael van der Vaart and Ricky van Wolfswinkel came off the bench in the final ten minutes of Real Betis 1-0 defeat to Las Palmas. Neither Dutchman had enough time to make an impact.
