Several Dutchmen were making the headlines around Europe at the weekend. We round up all the action from the biggest league’s.

English Premier League
The early kick off saw Newcastle United’s Dutch contingent entertain Arsenal. Tim Krul, Vurnon Anita, Daryl Janmaat and Georginio Wijnaldum all started in a 1-0 defeat, which was on the cards after Newcastle were reduced to ten men early on. Siem de Jong came off the bench with three minutes left, but couldn’t make an impact.
Jeremain Lens netted his first goal for Dick Advocaat’s Sunderland on Saturday to earn a 2-2 draw with Sunderland. Patrick van Aanholt played the full game for the Black Cats, while Leandro Bacuna started for Aston Villa but was subbed after 68 minutes.
Steven Berghuis and Nathan Ake were both missing from Watford’s squad as they were beaten 2-0 by league leaders Manchester City.
Marco van Ginkel, Erik Pieters and Ibrahim Afellay all started for Stoke City in their tie with West Brom, but the latter only lasted 25 minutes before seeing a straight red card for slapping an opponent. Stoke eventually went down to nine men before losing 1-0.
Michael Vorm was on the bench for Tottenham in their 0-0 draw with Everton.
Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United let a 1-0 lead slip to Swansea City before going down 2-1. Daley Blind and Memphis Depay both played the full ninety minutes, but both will have been disappointed with their performances.
Ronald Koeman’s Southampton saw off Norwich City 3-0 thanks to goals from former Eredivisie duo Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle. Maarten Stekelenburg kept a clean sheet, but Jordy Clasie was once again missing through injury. Ricky van Wolfswinkel did not come off the bench for Norwich.
La Liga
The only Dutchman in the Spanish top flight was once again missing, as injury ruled Rafael van der Vaart out of Real Betis 5-0 defeat to Real Madrid.
Serie A
Ricardo Kishna and Stefan de Vrij both started for Lazio in their tie with Chievo, but they had a night to forget as their opponents ran out 4-0 winners. Edson Braafheid and Wesley Hoedt spent the whole night on the bench.
AC Milan earned their first win of the season, beating Empoli 2-1 with Nigel de Jong putting in an impressive performance in midfield.
Maarten de Roon also put in a fine display for Atalanta on Sunday as his side beat Frosinone 2-0 on Sunday.
Jonathan de Guzman was once again missing from Napoli’s squad as they drew 2-2 with Sampdoria, and the midfielder is likely to leave the club on loan before the transfer window shuts.
Bundesliga
Arjen Robben netted his first league goal from the penalty spot as Bayern Munich eased to a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. The newly appointed Netherlands captain was then substituted in the 78th minute.
The meeting of the two Dutch international strikers in the Volkswagen Arena ended in the favour of Bas Dost, who’s Wolfsburg side hammered Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s Schalke 3-0. Dost netted the opening goal before being replaced with ten minutes left, while Klaas jan Huntelaar had a frustrating ninety minutes.
Luc Castaignos was at the double on Saturday to fire his Eintracht Frankfurt side to a 4-1 win over Stuttgart. The former Twente striker put his side 2-1 up just before the break before completing the scoring three minutes before the end.
Paul Verhaegh’s Augsburg side continued their poor start to the season with a 1-0 defeat to Ingolstadt on Saturday.
Charlison Benschop had a poor game up front for Hannover 96 as they were soundly beaten 3-0 at Mainz. The striker was replaced after 74 minutes.
Experienced centre back Rob Brouwers started for Borussia Monchengladbach in their tie with Werder Bremen, but had a poor game as his side were beaten 2-1. Gladbach currently sit rock bottom of the table.
Ligue 1
Last week Marseille hammered Troyes 6-0, but they were once again on the end of a defeat this weekend, as they were beaten 2-0 at Guingamp. Karim Rekik played the full ninety minutes at the back.
PSG continue to dominate the league after a 3-0 win over Monaco, but Gregory van der Wiel did not make it off the bench. The right back is yet to appear in the club’s opening four games.
Portuguese Super Liga
Porto are top of the league after a 2-0 win over Estoril on Saturday with Bruno Martins Indi returning to the starting line-up and completing the whole ninety minutes.
Marvin Zeegelaar’s side Rio Ave netted a 90th minute equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw away at Vitoria Setubal. The defender played the full ninety minutes.
Ola John was benched for Benfica’s last gasp 3-2 win over Moreirense, while there is still no sign of Bilal Ould-Chikh in the first team squad.
Turkish Super Lig
Wesley Sneijder enjoyed a fantastic evening on Saturday as the midfielder netted twice in the last few minutes of Galatasaray’s 4-1 win at Konyaspor.
Robin van Persie’s Fenerbahce side sit top of the table after a 2-1 win over Antalyaspor. The forward set up Nani to score the opener, but could not score himself.
Ryan Donk’s Kasimpasa side were knocked off top spot after a 1-0 defeat to Genclerbirligi. The defender played the full ninety minutes.
Omer Bayram netted the opener in Kayserispor’s 2-1 win over Mersin Idmanyurdu, while fellow Dutchman Diego Biseswar set up the winner.
Russian Premier League
Quincy Promes has been in excellent form so far this season, but he could not prevent his Spartak Moscow side from slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Anzhi. Fellow Dutch winger Lorenzo Ebecilio scored the opening goal of the game for Anzhi.
Alexander Buttner was once again missing for Dinamo Moscow in their 2-0 win over Ural.
