Current Ajax marketing manager Edwin van der Sar spoke to the NOS and gave his thoughts about the news of the death of Johan Cruyff.

The Ajax and Barcelona great shockingly lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, thrusting the whole football world into a state of shock.
Van der Sar, told NOS, “News of Johan’s death has hit us hard even though we were fully aware that Johan was sick and that cancer had been detected last October but the news is also unexpected. We have canceled the youth training games.
“This is a massive shock for Ajax and everybody associated with the club Johan Cruyff had a lot of victories in his life and we had hoped that he would do the same with his illness.”
He continued, ”Johan Cruyff is the greatest player that Ajax has ever produced and the number 14 shirt of this club is his , His actions as a player and his successes as a player and a manager but not just with football but also for young people that wanted to study he set up a university, college and also helping people with a handicap. It is not just the football world that will miss him.”
”Johan will always be associated with this club, his shirt and images hang everywhere in the Amsterdam ArenA that will never change that will always remain the same. He re-organized our youth policy and gave our club a new impulse in his later years.
“We have been able to prepare for the eventual situation regarding Johan Cruff we have prepared a film with fragments of his greatest goals. Flags are also hanging a half – mast this coming Saturday afternoon there will be a chance for fans to write in the condolence book in the Amsterdam ArenA.”
