The final game week in the Eerste Divisie takes place on Saturday with plenty still left at stake. Michael Bell takes you through what is still to be decided.

Jong Ajax currently sit one point clear at the top of the table and can claim the championship when MVV Maastricht visit Amsterdam. Michael Reiziger’s side have never lifted the second division title but can become the first reserve side to lift the trophy on Saturday.

Hoping for a slip-up is second-placed Fortuna Sittard, who host Jong PSV, and are only one point behind. Third-placed NEC Nijmegen are also still in the running despite being three points behind the league leaders. They travel to Dordrecht needing to win and hope that both Jong Ajax and Fortuna Sittard lose.

Automatic Promotion to the Eredivisie

Jong Ajax cannot be promoted to the Eredivisie meaning that Fortuna Sittard and NEC Nijmegen will battle it out for automatic promotion to the Dutch top flight. Fortuna Sittard are in the driving seat with a draw against Jong PSV possibly enough due to their superior goal difference on NEC.

Fortuna Sittard haven’t been in the Eredivisie since the 2001/02 season, while NEC were only relegated last year.

The last play-off spot.

One of NEC or Fortuna Sittard will have to settle for a place in the end of season play-offs and will be joined by De Graafschap, Telstar, Emmen, Cambuur, Dordrecht MVV and one other side, either Volendam or Almere City. In what may be the most exciting game of the weekend, Almere City host Volendam with 10th place at stake. Almere City are currently three points ahead but have a poorer goal difference.

Who will finish bottom?

Jong Utrecht will finish bottom of the table, regardless of what happens this weekend but luckily for them their will be no relegation this season.
